You can find this community in the heart of the Cloud Forest, an hour’s drive from Quito. It’s an Andean community composed by 53 families or approximately 300 inhabitants. All members emanate a certain air of happiness, kindness and familiarity that is manifested in the valuation of their customs and traditions. The community lives from agriculture, cattle rising, handwork and the extract of the forest resources. Younger people conform a group of naturalistic guides offering Ecotourism activities.
Volunteers are always very welcome. You could lend a hand and support the community in the following areas: The organic garden; Reforestation; Farm work; Environmental education; Handcrafts; Teaching English.
And as a pleasant side effect you’ll live the costumes and traditions of the Andean community, learn how to live well in harmony with our environment and make a unique experience.
It is advantageous if you have experiences in a handwork profession (e.g. painting, carpentry etc.), but not required. Also, a basic knowledge of Spanish would be advantageous but not required. We recommend combining the project with a language course in Quito.
